Mark 7:2-4; And when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen hands, they found fault. For the pharisees and all the Jews except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.


I think it is interesting how even back then, it was considered unholy and wrong if they did not wash their hands and food before eating. I am grateful for modern revelation and how they have taught us the importance of clean hands and food. I feel like clean food and hands is a big part of public health and the Temple is by far the purest and cleanest place that we can find!

My name is Emily Egbert and my little brother was born with a foot deformity called clubfoot. At the time of his birth the only form of treatment was surgery which is extremely detrimental to the feet. So to me public health means promoting the a non-surgical casting form of treatment called the Ponseti method which slowly corrects the feet without any long-term negative effects.

A large part of public health includes both protection and prevention. As for the Utah vs. BYU game tonight, our campus took the liberty of protecting statues around campus from our opponents. This is public health because students worked together to rise up against the unfavorable in hopes of a better tomorrow (or in this case, score against the Utes) with syran wrap. By taking the necessary measures to protect ourselves as a society (and university) against potentially harmful aspects of the world around us, we demonstrate public health.

What is the universal "first thought" when it comes to getting healthy? Either diet, or exercise, in the form of RUNNING. Good running shoes are important, as comfort is an important factor in maintaining the desire/motivation to continue the exercise. So whether you associate this sticker with the shoe, or with the activity, THIS IS PUBLIC HEALTH!

With hundreds of labs on campus, BYU has an enormous job managing all of the biological and chemical waste. It is important that standards are kept and met so that the enviroment and subsequently us are protected.

One reason public health still exists is due to those in the field's awareness of the need for adaptability of the definition overtime. To me, my sixteen year old brother with his laptop on, headphones in, texting his girlfriend is the definition of public health as it expands and changes with each generation. (Plus he thinks the sticker is a pretty cool asset to his computer.)

Awareness and education are two of the most important parts of Public Health.Cures and preventions would be pointless if never conveyed to the public. Missionaries are great examples of community members well educated in the benefits of Public Health who return their knowledge to help bless others!
